Highlighter Review: NARS The Multiple Stick in Copacabana

10:44 AM

After really enjoying my sample of the NARS The Multiple Stick in Orgasm, I really wanted more. Since Ulta has just begun stocking NARS products, they currently only have one other shade, Copacabana. But we all know how much I love highlighters so this worked out perfectly for me.

It retails for $39 for .5 oz; to compare, the Benefit's Watts Up is $30 for .33 oz and the (new) Tarte Gleam Team highlighter is $28 for .13 oz. The shade Copacabana is a champagne-y pearl color. The product itself is "multi purpose stick" but obviously this shade is for highlighting. It supposed to be sheer and "mistake proof."

I like to apply it by swiping it onto my cheekbones, then blending out with a sponge. It also works to tap the product with your finger than apply to your face using your finger. It can rub away my concealer if I'm not careful!

It has no glitter in it and gives a really nice sheen, it almost gives the wet effect which I love. It can be really, really subtle if you only apply a little, or really intense (like I wear it....and all other highlighters let's be real).

It lasts on me for 8 hours with slight fading. It emphasizes my pores just a little bit.

Overall this gets an 8/10. It can look a bit textured and dark if I don't blend it enough. Other than I love this! You get a shit ton of product too, there's no way I'll be running out any time soon.

Foundation Review: Loreal Infallible Pro Glow in 201 Classic Ivory

9:33 AM

The Loreal Pro Glow blew up when it first launched and I kind of ignored it the entire time. I figured it would be too dark so why even bother, but I swatched it on a whim and decided to give it a try. It seemed dark but doable.

It retails for $12.99 for 1 fl oz, does anyone else think that drugstore prices are getting up there? Maybe I'm just cheap. This product has a huge claim of being long-wearing for 24 hours! It is supposed to be lightweight and give you a hydrating glow.

I wore this for 10 hours, so we will get a good idea of whether or not it would last the full 24 hours it claims. I primed with the Maybelline Baby Skin, applied with my Real Techniques sponge, and set my face with the elf setting spray.

The color 201 is pretty orangey, but it's doable if I really blend down my neck. I mostly mix it white the Nyx white mixer, but I wore it alone for this review.

It goes on very easily and blends out with little effort. I already have my brows and eye makeup done because I had on a different base product that looked shitty, so I just took that off and applied the Loreal one instead (since I needed to review it). It gives a really subtle glow to my face which I'm a fan of. Feels lightweight and there is minimal settling.

I checked in after 3 hours (early, but I had to leave for work!). My face looked the same as it did after application, subtly glowy and healthy; with slight setting into fine lines. My pores were more visible at this point, but I do have oily skin so that was to be expected.

I didn't get pictures at the end of the night (as usual, I'm sorry!). My face looked...okay. I was very oily and the foundation seemed to have rubbed off a bit on my chin. Other than that there was no major separating or clinging, it looked pretty good for 10 hours of wear. On oily skin this would not live up to the 24 wear time claim, though.

Overall this gets an 8/10 from me. I do like it, but I'm not in love. I reach for it pretty consistently, and as long as I powder I get some normal wear time (probably 8 hours with doable oiliness). I do like how this seems to almost blur my skin, and does not give an oily dewy look straight from immediate application. The glow is done right with this foundation, imo.

My Hair Transformation

6:38 PM

And today's installment of "A Post That No One Cares About" is how my hair has transformed throughout the last couple of years. As someone who grew up never wanting to dye their hair, I sort of just...went all in out of nowhere and I thought that even if no one wanted to see this, it'd be interesting for me to see it compiled. There's going to be ugly pictures so like, you can laugh at those I guess. (sorry for difference in picture size and quality, I'm just using what I could find).

Okay so here's a picture of me in 2011. This is my natural hair color and how I wore my hair every single day: straightened. If I'm being honest with you, I don't even know what my natural hair texture was at this point.

And here's a picture from 2012 showing my natural color and texture! I gave up straightening once I got halfway through my freshman year of highschool. I was basically just growing my hair and letting it do its thing.

In 2013 I made my first mistake. I wanted a subtle hair color change, so I went with "lowlights". I knew nothing about undertones or what colors flattered me so I just let my hairdressor basically tell me what she thought would look okay. Clearly she didn't really know about undertones or flattering colors either.

Once my hair returned to its normal color summer 2014 I was bored. I was going through some shit and did this monstrosity to me hair. At the time I loved it, but let's be real...

Once that faded I had some cool blonde streaks that I was into. My hair texture was really nice at this point, I want it back!

Buttttttt I was itching for more color so I said fuck it.

This was super cool and all but faded into a murky mess of light brown and green and just...it was not a good look, but I kind of made it work.

All previously dyeing had been done at a salon. The first time at a rando place I went to, the teal was done at a Paul Mitchell salon. My friend was in beauty school and needed hair to practice on, so I said okay sure, I needed fresh dye anyways. I also let her give me an undercut and bleach it.

Again that faded into some ugly ass shit.

I was over the teal situation by 2015 and turned into a wildberry poptart looking bitch.

I originally was going to go for a lavender, but my hair person convinced me to go darker, as it would fade into the shade I wanted. It was...intense.

It never quite faded into the exact shade I wanted to be honest.

My hair was pretty faded by the end of 2015 so I was looking to switch it up. Decided I wanted the super trendy white/silver/grey hair. It only took one salon visit, but I was still kind of at an ashy blonde.

Purple shampoo saved my life and made my dreams come true. This was early 2016.

Being the stupid bitch that I am, I said "fuck the hair you've been growing for five years!" The lob was kinda cute at first I guess.

But then near the end of 2016 it grew out into a really weird shape so I got the downsloping angle cut out of it, thus sacrificing length.

I decided I wanted to grow my hair out again (I hate myself) so at the start of 2017 I was just chilling with what I got.

I chilled with it for a bit, preferred straightening it at this time (full circle anyone). But then...

This happened :-) I love it so much and am going to keep it this way for awhile.

Schmidt's Naturals Deodorant Jar in Lavender + Sage Review

6:09 PM

After the success I had with the stick version of this deodorant in lime and bergamot (review here), when I saw the jar version in Marshalls I had to try it! I had been thinking about purchasing the jar off their site anyways, so I was overjoyed to find it discounted.

It retails for $8.99. Just as the stick version, its said to "neutralize odors, reduce wetness without the use of aluminum, and absorb easily" among a few other things. It is naturally scented, cruelty free, gluten free, and vegan.

As always, when testing this product I applied it after my nightly shower, and then again in the morning and/or washed my pits if need be in the morning then reapplied.

If you are not used to deodorant in a jar, the initial application can be a bit tricky. They provide a little spatula to scoop out product, but I actually prefer to just use clean fingers. It is very stiff just like the stick, so I like to scoop up some product, hold it against my armpit for a few seconds, then spread it out. If you rub it in too much you may start to notice a gritty texture due to the baking soda.

The smell is the normal lavender and you can actually smell the herby sage. I usually find that products like lavender + an herb you can only smell the lavender, but that's not the case with this one. Its not overpowering at all in the way the lime + bergamot stick is.

Five hours after application, as well as in the morning (after a night of heavy sweating) I still smelled good. At night I could still smell the product, but in the morning I could only faintly smell it. This products lasts me throughout a chill day, a school day, or a work day. If I did intense sweating at work, I may smell a tiny itty bit off at the end of the shift, but nothing anyone would notice. Again I am blown away by this product, props to Schmidt's!

Overall this gets a 10/10 from me! I think I prefer this product to the lime + bergmot stick actually. I am interested in maybe trying to lime + bergamot jar. I did try a few other scents in the stick (cedarwood + juniper and ylang ylang + calendula), but I was not a fan of those scents and I did not think they performed as well. I would be willing to try their sensitive stick varieties, as well as the rose + vanilla scent, though, in any form. This is the deodorant I use every single day.

There is one slight downside to the Schmidt deodorants that I have noticed. It seems like if I do not make sure to wash out my pits every night, I get little red bumps that can be painful alllll over my pits. I'm sure this is related to these products, as it never happened before, but I am not sure if the not washing thing is the culprit. I usually stop using the product for a day or so and they go away. It has only happened a handful of times so I'm not sure what exactly about the deodorant is causing it.

My Collection: Brow Products

7:12 PM

I have come a long way when it comes to eyebrows. I once had the dreaded sperm brow, I'll admit, but I like to think my brows are pretty decent nowadays. I have a few different brow products in my collection that I'll be talking about in this post. I'm going to be including a few pictures of myself for in which I was using each product. I'm doing more than one, because my brows honestly come out different every single day; showing you different days will give you the gist, I think.

First we have the iconic Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade. I used to use the shade chocolate for whatever god awful reason, but have since tossed that one. Right now I currently have the shade Ash Brown which is a much cooler shade thank god. I went through a period where I used this religiously, but lately I never reach for it.

I also have the elf Eyebrow Kit in the shade Dark. This product is somewhat cool toned, but still does look a little off/warm on me. For awhile I was using only the gel side, then I was using the gel side on 2/3 of my brow and filling the front with the powder. Its a solid product, especially for $3. The following pictures are how my brows looked when using this.

The next product is the Nyx Micro Brow Pencil in the shade Ash Brown. I bought this when I realized the elf kit was still too warm. It was the first time using pencil since the very beginning of my doing my brows, so it had a bit of a learning curve. I liked it, but found it to still be too warm. When using this product I would do the same as with the elf kit, just using the pencil where I used the gel, and still using the powder.

One of my most recent brow product is the Etude House Drawing Eyebrow in the shade Gray Brown. This is cooler than the Nyx pencil, and its what I typically use on a day to day basis.

I also picked up the Nyx Automatic Eyebrow Pencil in Charcoal. This is super pigmented and I can use it on its own if applied lightly (first picture) or i mix it with the Etude House and Nyx Micro Brow (second picture).

Also, when using the elf kit, the Nyx pencil, and the Etude House pencil (sometimes) I use the Essence Make Me Brow in Browny Brown. I never use this product by itself, as my brows aren't full enough.

And that's really it for brow products! Personally I'm a fan of all of these! I think they all give my brows a unique look, but I really stick to using the Etude House one and/or a mix of Etude House and the two Nyx ones!

UPDATED Skincare Routine

9:04 AM

So awhile back I posted my skincare routine, but it has since changed so I thought I would make a little update. There are some products that are the same and some that have changed. Some acronyms I'll be using in this post are HG (Holy Grail), RP (will repurchase but not HG), and WNR (will not repurchase).

AM Routine

  • Cleanser: I actually do cleanse in the mornings now, which I didn't used to do. Sometimes I simply wipe my face with Simple micellar water (RP), but most of the time I cleanse my t zone with my Cosrx Low pH Cleanser (RP). I find that only my t zone needs to be cleansed in the morning.
  • Hydrating Toner: Still using Hada Labo Gokujyun Light (HG), but I have also added in the Kikumasamune Lotion first (NOT High Moist version, but the one in the white bottle).
  • Essence: Not sure if this is strictly considered an essence, but I basically use it as one. Its the goodal Moisture Barrier Liquid Light.
  • Serum: Again not sure if this truly counts as a serum, but I use the goodal Moisture Barrier Liquid (HG) next. I really like pairing this with the Light version. Sometimes I stop after this step and go straight to sunscreen if I'm pressed for time (which I usually am).
  • Light Moisturizer: Cosrx Oil Free Moisturizing Lotion (RP)
  • Medium Moisturizer: I still use the Innisfree Green Tea Balancing Lotion for this. I'm almost at the end of my bottle, finally. (WNR)
  • Medium Moisturizer: The Face Shop Chia Seed Emulsion (WNR) is what I still use for this step. Its not often I get this far in my routine in the morning, but it happens occasionally.
  • Sunscreen: I still use my trusty Biore Watery Essence for my sunscreen (HG).
PM Routine
  • 1st Cleanser: I switch between the It's Skin Calming Cleansing Oil (HG), It's Skin Calming Cleansing Cream (WNR), Neutrogena Makeup Wipes (RP), and Simple micellar water. This all depends on how lazy I'm feeling, and how good of an oil cleanse I want.
  • 2nd Cleanser: Again I use a handful of products like the Welcos Mint Pore Cleansing Foam (WNR), Welcos Green Tea Cleansing Foam (WNR), Hada Labo Gokujyun Foaming Cleanser (HG), and the Naive Peach Cleansing Foam (WNR).
  • Vitamin C: I recently started using the Melano CC Vitamin C Essence. It is an active so there is a wait time after application.
  • BHA: Still using my trusty Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid (HG).
  • Hydrating Toner: Kikumasamune Lotion and Hada Labo Gokujyun Light.
  • Essence: goodal Moisture Barrier Liquid Light.
  • Serum: goodal Moisture Barrier.
  • Light Moisturizer: Cosrx Oil Free Moisturizing Lotion.
  • Medium Moisturizer: Innisfree Green Tea Balancing Lotion.
  • Medium Moisturizer: The Face Shop Chia Seed Emulsion.
  • Heavy Moisturizer: The Face Shop Rice Bright Cream (RP)
  • Eye Cream: Cosrx Honey Ceramide Full Moisture Cream (unsure if RP)
As far as masks go here are a few I use with regular frequency:
  • Aztec Indian Clay Mask (RP maybe, but I doubt I'll run out any time soon)
  • The Face Shop Baby Face Pack Nutritive Modeling Mask (RP)
  • Missha Color Clay Mask in Purple Clay (maybe RP)
  • Boscia Green Tea Oil Control Mask (WNR)
  • Etude House sheetmask in Tea Tree (RP)
And I do use a sunscreen on my body now
  • Skin Aqua Super Moisture Gel SPF 50+ PA++++
I think its safe to say my routine is a bit more complex than it was last time I posted. I really, really love doing my skincare and I'm sure in a years time this will have grown and changed again!

Eye Palette Review: theBalm Meet Matt(e) Trimony

11:02 AM

I got this palette back when theBalm was having their 50% off sale. I had never tried any of their products, but had heard good things about their palettes. Plus I was in the market for an all matte/mostly neutral palette so I figured why not.

This retails for $42 and you get 9 pans. Their claims are pretty much to be smooth and blendable, which they definitely are. These last on my better than my Lorac Pro shadows using the same primer underneath.

I especially like the fact that these are very buildble in the sense that if you dip your brush in just a bit, you only get a bit of product. This isn't always a good thing, but in this case when they can be built up it works really well.

Overall this gets a 10/10 from me. I used this (and the Meet Matte Ador palette) for two weeks straight after I got them. I have absolutely no complaints.

Highlighter Review: Maybelline Master Strobing Liquid in Light/Iridescent

8:23 AM

Recently I dropped by one of my local Walgreens and like all the cosmetics were BOGO 50% so naturally I had to get some shit. I went in the store for a single powder, came out with two and a highlighter, it happens.

This retails for $9.99 for .67 fl oz; to compre Nyx Born to Glow has .5 for $7.49 and Loreal Lumi has the same amount as this one but for $12.99. I had seen swatches of this product on Maybelline's IG story and fell in love. Its got the typical highlighter claims of making you look all glowy and beautiful.

The shade Light/Iridescent is a pinky color that blends out to a really nice sheen. If you use a little tiny dab this can be subtle, but it can also be intense as fuck (my preference). It gives an almost wet look that I LOVE, and lasts all day 8+ hours with slight fading. It doesn't emphasize texture, but it can rub off foundation if you're not careful.

Overall I give this a 10/10, I really love this! I hope Maybelline expands the shade selection, though. I find a lot of brands just make the light shade of highlighter pink, give us something else!

Nyx Plush Gel Lipstick in Nude Beach and Dime Piece Reviews

6:00 AM

Recently, as an Ulta Platinum member I received 40% off Nyx lip products. Nyx has some of my favorite drugstore lip products so of course I couldn't let this pass. I ended up getting some formulas I knew I liked (butter glosses) and some new ones, such as this.

These retail for $6.99. The Plush gel line is relatively small, mostly pinks and orange tones. Its supposed to "bring together an oh-so-soft-feel and high shine of a lip gloss." I actually really wish this line had more shades.

Nude Beach is a perfect not too pink, not too orange nude for my skintone; Dime Piece is a light pinky shade. Then pigmentation of these is spot on, you get full, opaque coverage with one swipe of the product. They give a really shiny finish.

The one thing I absolutely CAN NOT stand about this product is the smell and the taste. They smell extremely chemically, and taste even worse. Even if you think you have not gotten any product in your mouth, I guarantee you'll still taste it. The first time I applied these, I was actually so turned off from the smell I was going to return them. That being said, the intense-ness of the chemical smell seems to have either faded with continued use, or I'm just used to it now. Regardless I don't really even notice the smell/taste anymore.

Nude Beach
Dime Piece
Dime Piece doesn't look quite as nice as Nude Beach does on the lips; it settles into lines a bit and almost sits on top of the lips if you know what I mean? Nothing too extreme though.

Wear time actually impressed me. I can wear these for almost a full work shift (so anywhere from 4-6 hours) without needing to reapply or having them become crusty and gross looking. They do fade somewhat, and the glossiness does wear off within the first hour; they take on a more satin finish after that.

Overall these get an 8/10 from me. If the line had a wider range of shades, and they didn't smell god awful I would genuinely give these a 10/10. Fingers crossed Nyx expands the shades but I' not holding my breathe.
