Concealer Review: Nyx HD Concealer in Lavender

10:21 AM

Back before the "highlighting your undereyes in a concealer one shade lighter" trend blew up, there really weren't that many options for extremely pale concealers. The reason I'm able to find some now, as I mention in one of my other concealer reviews, is that the shades most people use for highlighting, are concealers that match my skin tone.

The Nyx HD Concealer in the shade Lavender was the first concealer I used under my eyes. I didn't really care for concealing blemishes (thank god, since I couldn't find an appropriate concealer to do so), and had never really seen one that I could use under my eyes. That is, until my favorite youtuber Thataylaa mentioned this product.

It retails for $4.99 and you get .11 oz. For reference the cult favorite Maybelline Age Rewind is $8.99 for .2 oz. It is said to give medium to heavy coverage, and to "effectively cover imperfections, discoloration, and under eye circles without ever looking cakey or obvious."

The shade Lavender is perfect to give me the highlighted undereye look, Obviously this won't work on most skintones, but if you're as pale as me, its perfect.

As you can see, the product brightens my undereyes and gives a more awake effect. It does not crease or settle upon application and gives an extremely natural, skin-like finish.

After 5 hours I would say my undereyes were looking good. The concealer had almost melted into my skin to look even more skin-like. No creasing or settling at all.

At the end of the night around 10 hours after initial application, my undereyes were looking okay. They looked a bit worn out, as makeup can tend to look near the end of the day. The concealer had not creased or broken down though. (sorry no pics, I closed at work and forgot to get pictures before washing my face).

Overall this concealer gets a 10/10 from me. I really love how it brightens my undereyes and never creases. I have repurchased this twice and will probably continue to do so. I honestly pick this over my Kat Von D concealer most days.

Foundation Review: Tarte Rainforest of the Sea in Porcelain

12:34 PM

I recently went to a mall with a real Sephora in it (I only have a JCP Sephora near me) and let me tell you I was blessed. The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea line is only available at Sephora, but my JCP one doesn't have it. I had heard Tarte came out with a new lightest shade, and lo and behold this Sephora had it, so naturally I had to get a sample; which leads me to this review.

It retails for $39 for 1 fl oz. It is said to be a "lightweight, full coverage hydrating foundation" that lasts 12 hours. It does have a psychical sunscreen with an SPF of 15 in it, but like I've said before base products with SPF are pretty much useless as far as sun coverage.

The shade Porcelain is just said to be for "very fair skin". This made me laugh because almost all of the other shades on the Sephora site and Tarte site have the undertones listed. I guess when you're "very fair" you don't have to worry about undertones, obviously lmao. In my opinion it seems to have a neutral tone to it.

I applied it over the Maybelline Baby Skin primer and set my face with the elf setting spray. I wore it for 8 hours.

It feels really hydrating and a tiny bit gel like, and blends out really easily with my Real Techniques sponge. As you might have realized by now, I go for a more light coverage look, so I only applied one layer of this product. It seems to give me light/medium coverage with one layer; my freckles and pores are peeking through, but my redness is covered and skin is evened. It gives a very skin like finish. I really love how this sits on my skin, and the color is doable!

I checked in 6 hours later, a bit of a later check in, my bad. (I did check my face at four hours in and it looked the same as when I first applied). After 6 hours my face honestly still looked really, really good. My pores were a bit more visible and I was a bit oily, though. The product had not broken down or rubbed off anywhere, and it also wasn't clinging to any dry areas I currently have.

At the 8 hour mark I looked pretty oily, which is usually the case for me. I wasn't expecting any different, seeing as how this is a hydrating foundation it isn't made to control oil. But again, the foundation was holding up 100%, no separating or rubbing off or clinging. There still wasn't any oxidation or anything like that, still was a decent enough color match. Even though I think my face was done at 8 hours, I do believe the 12 hour claim if you don't have oily skin. Like I said the only issue was the oil, the foundation still looked good.

Overall I give this a 10/10, I'm really loving this product! I feel like I haven't been this excited about a foundation since I tried the UD Naked Skin, but this Tarte foundation I can actually wear without mixing in white which is super exciting to me. I really do think I'm going to be buying the full size of this product, that's how much I love it.

Old Spice Pure Sport High Endurance Deodorant Review

4:03 PM

I have noticed that men's deodorants come in a shit ton more deodorant only varieties than women's (almost virtually all of women's are antiperspirants), so I figured I should start trying out more men's deodorants. I don't really care about my deodorant being all natural, its just that most deodorants without antiperspirant happen to be natural.

This retails for about $3, I can't remember the actual price and can only find value packs online. It claims for give you 24 protection and that's pretty much it. Its got a typical manly scent and its a gel consistency, but it dries quickly.

Like always I showered at night, applied this product, checked in before I went to sleep, and reapplied in the morning (or washed pits then applied in the morning). Right after application the smell is noticeable but not super strong or anything.

About 3-5 hours later when it was time for me to sleep, I usually still smelled pretty good, the scent was a lot fainter though. In the mornings I usually smelled like BO, or had a tiny itty bit of the deodorant smell left, with a little bit of BO as well.

On a school/stay at home day this product lasts me around 3-4 hours until I needed to reapply. As I always do with non antiperspirants, I usually take the product with me in case I need to reapply sooner or what have you.

For work this barely lasts an hour. Its an absolute no go for that situation.

Overall I use this for school or sleeping, but I'll never use it for work or high anxiety situations. I'll give it a 4/10. Its decent, but I'm going to keep looking.

Lancome Juicy Shakers in Piece of Cake and Berry in Love Reviews

10:23 AM

I'm going to be honest (how many times can I start a blog post with this phrase), when I first saw the Lancome Juicy Shakers I did not get the reference to cocktail shakers. Being even more honest I had to google "alcohol shaker thing" to even figure out what a cocktail shaker was called right before I wrote this review. I just thought the packaging was cute okay...

The Juicy Shakers retail for $22 for .3 oz. To compare to other lip oils/glosses the Too Faced Lip Injection gloss is $22 for .14, and the ABH glosses are $16 for .16 oz. They've got a million catchy gimmicky claims but to sum it up these are a mixture of oil and pigment that are supposed to be not sticky or oily, and are supposed to moisturize your lips. When left to sit, the pigment seperates from the oil (you can kind of see it in Berry in Love), so you have to shake them and mix them before applying. The coverage is supposed to be a "shot" of color (aka sheer). They've got a really cool little cushion applicator that I'm a fan of.

I have two shades; Berry in Love and Piece of Cake. Berry in Love is a purple berry shade while Piece of Cake is a terracotta nude. These aren't crazy pigmented (they're not supposed to be), but they're also not so sheer that you can't tell you have anything on. I got Piece of Cake in a gift set so it came with a lip liner and I do normally wear it with the liner, but for the sake of this review I'm not using the liner.

The scents vary from each shade, which I think is pretty neat. The smell reflects the name, so Berry in Love smells like berries, while Piece of Cake smells like cake (actually it kinda just smells sweet to me). I'm a fan of gimmicky stuff like that so.

Piece of Cake

Berry in Love
Both apply super easily; the puff applicator gets soaked with product as you shake it to mix it. Since they are semi-sheer, you don't have to be precise with your application, which is a big plus for me.

Wear time isn't super great, they lose their glossiness pretty quickly (within 30 minutes), but thankfully they do leave a stain for about 3 hours max. That being said, I always find myself reapplying before 3 hours, because once the glossiness is gone, they do not feel moisturizing at all. By 3 hours and no reapplication I actually find them somewhat uncomfortable. That being said, it really doesn't bother me to keep reapplying, since I don't need a mirror to do so.

Overall I give these an 8/10. I really like this product; the smells are great as are the colors.  I'm honestly probably going to end up getting more, although I do wish the staying power was better. That being said, Lancome never claimed these were long lasting, so I can't really complain!

bronzer reviews

Bronzer Review: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer in Light Bronzer

11:33 AM

Aaaand here's a category of product reviews I never thought I would have on this blog: bronzers. If you read my Bronzer/Contour collection post you know I literally only have one bronzer, and its kinda borderline a blush if I'm being honest. But for some reason I just really wanted to buy this bronzer? So maybe bronzers are growing on me and I'll end up with a shit ton, who knows.

The Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer Murumuru Butter Bronzer (yes, that's its technical name) retails for around $14 for .38 oz of product. For comparison I quickly looked up different bronzers like the Too Faced Chocolate Soliel bronzer which is $30 for .35 oz and the Nyx Bronzer which is $8.99 for .33 oz.

This product promises to "smooth skin texture, brighten skin tone, and deliver a gorgeous bronzer finish." Its got Murumuru, Cupaucu, and Tumuca Butter in it to make it moisturizing and creamy. Its honestly got a ton more claims but that's the gist of it. I find it really interesting that there's no mention of smell listed. If you have ever heard of this product, you know it has a very intense beachy-y, sunscreen-y, tropical smell; the smell is so strong you can smell it through the packaging before you open it! Personally I'm a fan of it, but it might be too intense for some.

The color Light Bronzer is a yellow toned, light/medium brown. Its got a really nice satin  finish that gives you a really nice sun-kissed glow. It looks a bit shimmery when swatched, but that luckily does not transfer onto the face.

This shit is so buttery and creamy like I just want to swatch it all day long, lmao. It applies very evenly with a brush and can be built up, but is very hard to go overboard with. It works really well on my cool toned pale skin, despite the fact that it is warm and yellow toned. It wears well for 8+ hours. Pictures honestly show it so much lighter than it is in person, especially face pictures. Its worth mentioning that the intense smell is noticeable when you first apply it, but after about 30 minutes its gone.

Overall I love this! It gets a 10/10 for me. Finding a bronzer that doesn't look terrible on pale skin is pretty rare, so this product really over exceeded my expectations. I hardly ever pan any products, but if I ever do, I'll repurchase for sure! I think I'm going to become a regular bronzer wearer...who could have expected this.

blush reviews

Blush Review: Too Faced Love Flush Long-Lasting Blush in Love Hangover

6:36 PM

So today's review is on the (mini version) Too Faced Love Flush Long-lasting Blush in the shade Love Hangover. I mentioned getting a gift set with a mini version of this in my Too Faced Candlelight review, and now here's the review!

It retails for $26 for .21 oz of product. Its a warm pinky shade with a sheen to it. Personally I would not pick out a warm toned pink blush for myself, so I was a bit skeptical, but its actually quite flattering.

It is very pigmented, but not so much that its difficult to work with (Lorac Color Source Blush I'm looking at you). It applies very evenly and blends out like a dream. There is very little to no fading after 8+ hours of wear, which is impressive if you ask me.

Overall I give this a 10/10, there's nothing I don't like about this product. I actually really want some full sized Love Flush blushes now (even more than I already did due to their cute design).

Tom's Long Lasting Wild Lavender Deodorant Review

10:19 AM

Honestly when I think of natural deodorants, Tom's is the first that comes to mind so it's kinda weird I'm only now testing it out. I had just always heard such mixed things on the brand so I didn't bother, but after so many trials and errors with all the other deodorants I've tried, I figured why not.

It retails for $4.99 and promises "clinically tested 24 hour protection", with "botanical ingredients to absorb odor". Getting 24 hour wear out of a deodorant with no antiperspirant gets me a little skeptical.

The smell is a bit "manly" and pretty strong. I do like it though. As always I applied this after my showers at night and again in the morning to test (although sometimes I would wash my pits in the morning before reapplication, I realized I never mentioned that in other reviews).

This is a clear deodorant that goes on ever so slightly wet, but dries very quickly. 4 hours after initial application I could still smell the product pretty strongly, and I felt fresh and dry. The only issue I have with the scent is once it mixes with sweat, it has a slightly unpleasant smell. I'm not talking about a B.O smell, but its like the lavender smell but just kind of...off.

Waking up in the morning I smelled a tiny teeny bit bad, but I could also still smell the deodorant scent. (This varied; on nights when I sweated especially heavily, I woke up smelling pretty bad). I seemed to get about 3-5 hours of wear out of this product on an average/light sweating day. It MIGHT be able to be pushed to 8 if I was seriously not sweating AT ALL (so like, not realistically).

On days when I sweated more heavily this lasted around 3 hours maximum, 1 average, and for work I will not use this product as it only seems to last about an hour. This is pretty typical with all the deodorants I have tried; I don't use any of them for work.

Overall this gets a 4/10. Its decent for days when I'm running errands or going to class, but still won't cut it if I have anything to do which will cause major sweating (any unfamiliar social event, work, etc).

Highlighter Review: Wet n Wild Megacushion Highlight

6:40 AM

This Wet n Wild release had me so hype if I'm being honest (let's not even talk about the Spring 2017 holy shit I need all of it). Of course I love cushion products and I love highlights so I was all over this as quickly as I could be.

It retails for $5.99. The color is a pinky champagney whiteish that really doesn't show up in swatches that well. I think its irresponsible of a makeup company to only have one shade of highlighter (I know Wet n Wild has other highlighters, I'm just referring specifically to this cushion highlighter). This color is definitely not going to work on people with anything darker than a light/medium skintone. It doesn't seem very glittery and gives a nice glow that can be built up.

Its easy to get too much product on the puff, so you have to make sure to only press into the cushion ever so slightly. The puff applicator applies the product very well, I especially like getting a tiny bit of product on the edge and swiping it under my brow.

This sits okay on my skin; I've noticed that if its not catching the light, it can look a bit textured and cakey. But that also depends on the amount you apply. It wears well for 8 hours with minimal fading, and does not get more textured as time passes or anything.

Overall this gets a 7/10 from me. I really like the glow this gives without looking glittery, and since its a liquid product you get that "lit from within" look. The color goes nicely with my skintone, but the way it sits on my skin doesn't thrill me. I most likely would not repurchase this, but will definitely continue to use it.
